Signing Checks, Planning for Retirement and Free Money!

Today I signed many WPP commission checks for our brokers and I always enjoy that. However another document crossed my desk today that I enjoy seeing even more. Today I signed a WPP Broker’s registration form to the Windermere Retirement Program.
This plan has been available to agents since sometime around when I started with the company in 1993.  It is an easy way to set aside pre-tax dollars and save for retirement.  The money goes into a pooled account where you can direct how the money is invested by choosing from a wide variety of mutual funds depending on your risk tolerance and time horizon. I love knowing our brokers are recognizing the need for this type of planning and taking advantage of this tremendous benefit available to them! (not to mention, some free money!)
“Free Money” you say?! Actually, yes! When a WPP Broker has been with the firm for 24 months or more they qualify for an extra contribution to their retirement account.  WPP ownership will make a deposit into the brokers account between $500 and up to $1,500 depending of years of service.  As long as the broker is registered for the Windermere Retirement Program they qualify! So once per year the broker receives a letter signed by Kevin and I announcing to them a deposit was made on their behalf.  Now that I think about it, I like signing those letters the best!

I too loved getting those contributions but alas my designated broker told me a few years back that he will no longer contribute to my Windermere retirement account. I was disappointed but I guess it is his choice. I was the only agent taking advantage of that contribution although I tried to encourage other brokers to do that….. I am glad your brokers can enjoy that benefit!
